The short version: we use your data only to power your meal plan. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or do anything with it you haven't asked us to. You can delete everything, instantly, at any time.
1. Who we are
Eat. is operated by Eat App Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. When this policy says "Eat", "we", "us" or "our", it means Eat App Ltd.

2. What data we collect
We collect only what we need to give you a meal plan that actually works for you.
- Account data — your email address, name (optional), and authentication token when you create an account.
- Food preferences — dietary requirements, allergies, dislikes, goals, cooking style and any craving prompts you type. This is the heart of what makes your plan yours.
- Plan and meal data — the plans we generate, the meals you save, your grocery lists, and cook-mode progress.
- Photo data (Power / Household / Lux only) — photos you submit to the Photo → Macros scanner are processed to extract macro information and then deleted. We do not store your food photos.
- Usage data — which screens you visit, features you use, and basic device/OS info. Used only to improve the app. Never linked to ad profiles.
- Crash and diagnostic data — anonymous crash logs to fix bugs. No personal information is included.
3. How we use your data
- To generate and improve your meal plans using our AI models.
- To maintain your account, process your subscription, and send you essential service emails (receipts, password resets).
- To improve the app — aggregate, anonymised usage patterns help us prioritise features and fix problems.
- To comply with legal obligations where required by law.
We do not use your personal data for advertising, do not build ad profiles, and do not share personal data with third-party marketers.
4. Who we share data with
We share your data only with the handful of trusted service providers we need to run the app:
- Cloud infrastructure — servers and databases hosted on AWS (EU regions) that store and process your data on our behalf.
- Payment processing — Apple handles all subscription billing via In-App Purchase. We never receive or store your card details.
- AI processing — meal-plan generation uses large language models. Food preference data is sent to these models only to generate your plan and is not used to train third-party models.
- Analytics — we use aggregate, anonymised analytics. No personally identifiable data leaves the app in analytics events.
All third-party providers are bound by data processing agreements and are prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.
5. Data storage & security
Your data is stored on servers in the European Union. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Access is restricted to personnel who need it to operate and improve the service.
We retain account and meal-plan data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data is deleted within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregated data (with no link to you) may be retained for product improvement.
6. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure — delete your account and all associated data. You can do this in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. It takes effect immediately.
- Portability — export your saved meals and plan history in a machine-readable format.
- Restriction — ask us to limit processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Objection — object to processing where we rely on legitimate interests.
To exercise any right, email hello@theeat.app. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
7. Cookies
The Eat iOS app does not use cookies. This website (theeat.app) uses only essential technical cookies needed to serve the site. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
8. Children's privacy
Eat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to us, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will notify you by email or by a notice in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version.
